About

Growing up in Watford on the border between dense urban development and wild, wooded countryside, Kyla spent much of her childhood in the garden or on her mum’s allotment, with grubby knees and blackberry-stained fingers, picking elderflowers for cordial and collecting snails. After graduating with a degree in philosophy from Cambridge University in 2007, she spent the next 15 years writing, performing and touring music, both for her own project and as as a vocalist with legendary British electronic band Faithless. Drawn back to the natural world by her love of plants, while writing her third album she studied Garden Design at Capel Manor College, and after the album release and tour she decided to retrain in garden design full-time, completing her diploma at the prestigious Oxford College of Garden Design in 2024. Her garden design work has already been featured on BBC Gardener’s World and in print, and she describes her gardens as “contemporary and romantic, places to get lost in, that tell a story.” She puts a wildlife-friendly, sustainable approach at the heart of all her designs, and works with the client to develop a space that suits their needs, whether it be low-maintenance and paired back, or dramatic and otherwordly.
